let us say the company is XYZ..do a Google search using the keywords" My experience with XYZ" OR "XYZ scammed me" or "My XYZ review "..etc
You will find some of the affiliated reviews , of course. but believe me when people are made they shout loud..so if anyone had a bad experience with XYZ you will know it
At least that what I usually do before buying anything on net..
