shared hosting is where you get a peice of someone elses hosting package (you get hosting off a reseller) i am not too sure about VPS (virtual private servers) as i havent looked into them much, but i think they are a dedicated server devided between several people. and a dedicated server is basically you get your hosting straight from a computer.. (the server) and you are (i think) the only user for that computer this enables you to have a whole hd (they go up to about 160gig i think) and all the bandwidth that computer offers, but of course, this costs you more
