Being a big company HostGator.com provides their services a little bit carelessly.
A2hosting.com is a middle-sized company that treats their customers in a better way as they are afraid of losing their clients. It's quite natural.

I'm not sure about A2hosting.com but I have heard both good and bad things from hostgator. I know they've been around for awhile however there has been a sudden influx of negative feedback popping up on the net.
