simplicity is quite a deciding factor for most webmasters because forums aren't their only concern you know! also, you know how everyone loves to tweak soemthing. less time on trying to understand its basics and more time on the actual tweaking!

I know of 1.3 and 1.3 in fact, 1.2 is in one of my Cpanels ENABLED! *dances but there's also an unlimited trial version of IPB 2.0

you can get PhpBBFM www.PhpBBFM.net FULLY MODDED !! comes stock with every mod u can get

also Invision Power Board 1.3 is free the rest + are licenced only.

then PunBB which is pretty good..

also a new one thats jsut come out.. i've forgotten the name of it.. SW somthign..

and vBulliten

Vbulletin is over priced. Phpbb has some security issues to be sorted out. smf does not have enough mods.
I prefer ipb.
you get both free and commercial versions. going for free or commercial version depends on you. For more info you could always google. That might give u more info than what I do.
