 | comparing the big networks
1and1, godaddy, etc... I am planning to buy a dedicated server in the coming months and i think I will probably go for something reliable unless someone has a really good deal... I have a question on deals I have spotted that claim they offer a "unlimited X mbps speed" where x is something like 10, 20, etc. How can they prevent the abuse of their servers? someone could just utilize tons of bandwidth continously right? Where do they draw the line since it's their fault that they offered unlimited bandwidth essentially. Anyways, if anyone could address these concerns I'd be much obliged, thanks |

| One thing you need to pay attention: unlimited or unmetered.
- nothing unlimited 
- but an unmetered 10mbps line will allow you around 3000GB transfer/month
And usually, when you reach your bandwidth limitation, they dont stop you, they let you continue, and charge for over usage bandwidth

| Good point. Unlimited is physically impossible. You can really mess up a server without knowing that. I'd expect that they only let you use the bandwidth on the specific server you ordered. | |

| Well Just Make Sure It Is True Unlimited MY ISP said that my plan in unlimited but the thing is that i get 20 gig download after i go over that they wont even slow my speed down so i end up paying over $2 per meg addidional =3 so i really have to watch my usage and so do you ke ke ke ke ke ke ke ke | |

| One quick opinion:
DO NOT go with 1and1!!
My husband and I have been looking for a dedicated and we thought 1and1 had a great deal so we bought. We got disconnected on all fronts (ftp,ssh,gameserver) about once every hour no matter what. All the support 1and1 gave us was that the server looked fine on thier end so it had to be something we were doing. We tested with multiple different computers, ISPs, etc... and still had the same problems. So just a warning to stay away. | |
