Hi There Sorry I Took So Long:-

1)Right there are loads of hosting control panels out there e.g. cPanel, Plesk, zPanel, Webmin etc. all they are is a GUI to let your customers program their website without any programming knowlege, it also allows you to set limits on how much space, bandwidth, databases etc. they have

2)No a lot really all are very similar

3)I Prefer cPanel as it is easy to use etc.

4)Most Control Panels are Linux Compatible but i reccomend linux as it is more stable than windows

5)zPanel is free but it is still in its BETA stages but it is universal so you can use it on Windows Too

6) All you can incorporate Scripts, cPanel Comes With Fantastico which is great

7) cpanel.net, zpanel.org, swsoft.com

3.I prefer cpanel, even though plesk is not bad.
4.Cpanel for Linux, Plesk supports both, I think. I prefer Linux.
5. I am not aware of any(just heard about zPanel). You must be prepared to pay for a good one. Otherwise, you can run without a controlpanel itself- just as I do most of the times

For Linux:

If you want a free control panel, then Webmin/Usermin is probably near enough your only decent option.

If you're prepared to pay for a control panel, I'd take a look at Plesk and DirectAdmin.
