there is alot of work in running a dedicated.. is there anything in particular you would like to know... or just everything i can think of?

everything that you can think of would be great lol... but i'm currently particulary interested in securing the server first as i hear people get hacked often...

For anyone wants to manage a server, try to learn firstly
- TCP/IP
- the OS on your server

They are the very basic knowledgement

Management server, well first how to install an OS then setup server first.
Then install like other softwares. For me it's too much hasle, so I just use the service cost $30-90 ish

if you want to manage a server, of course i will be safety if you install a firewall.But it seems that it is quite expansive

ha ha.

If you get the budge for the security.

A hardware Firewall is prefer.

However, a free Linux firewall can also help you

I do not recommend you to get an Unmanaged server at all with no server management knowledge.
I know it is cheaper to get an Unmanaged server, but what if in 1 year it gets hacked and you lose all the data on it? Who will you blame? Your datacenter?

It's worth the extra $100. Get a managed server, and sleep well.
Or, get an Unmanaged server and an outsource server management team (usually more expensive).

In order to be a "good" system administrator you will have to learn a lot.
A Linux Server Administration course would be a start. It is usually expensive (around $500 for a good one), however you profit from it in the long run.

A firewall will not protect you against everything. A bad security model is all someone needs to hack into your box.
