Image Load Times

Just wanted to know what people thought about .png vs .jpg or .gif. For me and most of the people who visit sites I run, load time is not a problem since we all have fast connections. But I know it is generally desirable to have fast loading pages obviously. So what formats do you usually use, and what quality do you set your images to be?

.jpg is a better option for images/photos with lots of colors. Its compression is a bit lossy, but the quality is still good for web viewing, and the good thing about it is that it has small file sizes which is ideal for the web.

Use .gif for black and white images or images with few and solid colors, since a .gif file will result in a smaller file size in these cases.

.png is useful for transparent rendering, although the file size is a bit bigger than usual, which is why only a few websites use this option.

I think GIF is better for small images. JPG is a good options for larger size pictures. But I can say that non of them is good enough if you need to store a high quality images.

Have a good one
