 | Php is better, because it is not a Microsoft's product (just kidding)
I prefer php because it is a very fast open source product. That have many benefits, a great and huge support community and huge open source community where you can find almost any thing for free.
As for the programming, php has many automations, it is very fast and flexible, and has everything. I mean as for web development there is nothing that can't be done with php. |

 | In my opinion, if money is any issue, use PHP and MySQL. They are very easy to pick up and free to use. Very easy language in my opinion and with PHP 5 it is true OOP.
Otherwise, use .NET, especially if you are familiar with it. Form validation, amongst other things, is easier and the IDE is far superior to anything. |

 | I'm a Microsoft MVP in Shell/User/IE (thrice awarded I guess if one wanted to look at it like that) and I *can* offer Windows hosting with my company but I don't have it listed. We will shortly but the ONLY reason for doing so is to be complete.
I'm a PERL coder (yeah, call center sys-op back in the days in the trenches) and I have to be honest. If I had to make a choice (and I have) to pick which one I would want to use then my choice would NOT be PHP vs. .NET but rather PHP and MySQL vs. .NET and SQL Server 2005.
Right now? I still do MySQL but do some research and see what is being done on SQL 2k5... Oh my... I have a local copy (MSDN thank God) and hammered on it on IIS - it doesn't break.
My reasons probably won't change for a long time to come and, given the history, may never? For me to pick to host on the LAMP stack is simply a no-brainer. It's absolutely absurd (and funny) that when you take the time to dig to the root of why Microsoft is popular you will find it's because it's easy to dev on and there are so many folks who do so... Until you hit the 'net...
Pound for pound and add in muscle? I'll still take PHP for my own PERSONAL and COMPANY use for a long time to come I expect but darn that SQL 2k5 is beautiful. If you've got in-house dev staff and/or financial backing and want to retain usability with point and click formats that are END-USER FRIENDLY (even AJAX doesn't quite seem to reach that from what I've seen so far) then hitting hard on the Microsoft door is something to consider. Ease, security - yes you read that right, and customization are all something that can be done with decent administration.
Anyhow, yeah we're in New England, I'm doing a bean bake and I think I'll be done for the day if not done forever after my last posting in the ads forum. Sorry folks here who might recognize me but, well, you all know I'm going to tell the story as it sits. If I'm not banned and the folks who are the powers that be take the time then I'll stick around more but I initially joined to post a response to a question about "unlimited" and that was done so it's all good. I tried not to trash their ad and didn't really but I did point out some observations and obey the rules (general rules for forums) of not linking to other forums.
If I'm still here in 24 hours or so then I'll go ahead and stick around and learn something from you all. Really, most know far more about this stuff than I.

 | I would say PHP. Almost any server can run on it. Only microsoft servers can use .NET |

 | PHP is better but........... PHP is a shade better in most cases. But most in India prefer ASP.NET. MS can put money into .net development, where as PHP is open source. So, it depends on the server too. If your webserver is IIS, it may be better to go with ASP.NET and FrontPage whatever MS has for web things. |
