Off Site Colocation?

For the most part, a large number of corporate organizations have recognized the economies of scale, manpower and time that outsourcing of IT requires in order to effectively deliver results in terms of bottom line savings on operating/capital expenditure.

The need to outsource is becoming more pressing for industries such as E-business. New tools are an increasing necessity for organizations as intranets/extranets and are being deployed. The related demand for additional server space, a secure environments and skilled technicians has continued to grow. Over the past few years, the developments in collocation has been debated, but the bottom line answer is that it’s evident that a large number of customers are continuing to seek out alternatives for off sight colocation or web hosting solutions.

Is colocation the way to go, or is finding a hosting provider like Rack Space the way to go (someone who provides hosting solutions)? There is no right answer. The answer is it depends on where you’re at in the realm of technology. If you’re looking for straight power, space, and mega bandwidth and you house and manage your own equipment and software/applications on your own than someone like a Corexchange is the way to go, but if you’re looking for someone else to manage and host your applications, than out sourcing to someone like Rack Space is the way to go.

Colocation is an evolution process, not everyone is at the right place to be able to collocate.

Your thoughts…..?

Your correct, many dedicated guys just run a box or 2, now when they get so huge that the cost of running 10 dedicated boxes is to much to handle they go the colo route, just like climbing a ladder.
