Secure Low-Cost (or Free) Forum Software

As many of us know, one of the leading free forum software out there, phpBB, has serious security holes that are exploited by malicious users time and again. There are better and more secure solutions like vB and IPB, but these cost lots of money. Does anyone know of a good and feature-rich piece of free or low-cost forum software that does not have the kinds of security issues that phpBB has? (The key here is feature-rich AND secure... I know a bunch like IceBB that are secure but lack phpBB's features and large community that can offer a wide range of free mods and themes).

phpBB's features are GREAT, but the security is not good at all.. every version has holes, and it's certainly not good for a large forum.

see its not like phpbb is not good..... there new project will be good for security version 3.......IPB and VB are good but the security is good as well as not good coz hackers have hacked there latest version................

as per my thinking SMF is the best coz its free and no hacker think abt SMF.......... for looks and rich contents you can modify the forum as u want if u have the knowledge of PHP

phpbb is an open invite to spammers and hackers.

SMF has poor anti-spam controls.

Really, vbulletin is the only one to hold it's head up in the face of increasing challenges.
