Well, I'm currently an administrator at http://www.trap17.com and have my site http://plusone.trap17.com hosted there, and I must say, it's a very well set up host. It's a little over a year old now, and still running strong, with good management, and support staff. The community's pretty nice as well. I'm in charge of a lot of stuff, but focus more towards the graphics sections, as that's kinda my area of expertise.

As for bad hosts, well, my previous host was http://www.sferahost.com which I was also an admin at...it started out pretty nicely, but after the second owner change, it pretty much got abandoned. Apparently it was "hacked", but I don't believe it. Anyway, it's still down now, so no worries about getting stuck there.

cheap with a huge amount of space and b/w, very reliable too, i'm still being hosted by them but i just use them as a test for site templates etc, as im about to set up my own hosting company

bad host was www.webela.com

good host while around, but for no reason went down, meaning i lost everything

I've had bad experiences with many free hosts such as web1000 (before other company bought it), freewebtown (unreliable), ww-hosting, frandt.com (slow, now offline), 000k.com (unreliable, now offline), t-rh.com, whosters.com, daricash, and so on.

the good news about all these hosts is they dont last for long, although i guesse not so good if you dont backup your files on your own hd.

maybe this post could be stickied, and the original poster edit his post to accomidate a list of good/bad hosts.
