I need a linux web hosting plan that allows me to install Asterix server software and I also need MySQL. After talking with a hosting company, they told me I will need individual server plan or a virtual dedicated server will work. Since I am just starting, I believe a basic hosting plan should be OK for me. I looked at godaddy hosting plan and it looks excellent for $26/month virtual dedicated server plan. Do you all experts think this is a good decision?

Godaddy is unmanaged, so only if you have the skills for server management, go for it. They are okay overall, but dont expect them to help you manage the server. In fact most of the low cost VPS are going to be self managed.

if you are just looking for a test server, that $26 offer could be enough. if you have reasonable traffic, make sure that you get at least 512 MB ram.

Managed vps hosting will cost a bit more, around $40+ per month.

NO. Been there , done that. Had to switch. Too overloaded and way too slow. Go dedicated.
